Channeling Peace meets success!
As most of you are aware, The Channeling Peace Initiative has encountered several snags along the way (check the CNN article by clicking: HERE), but has ultimately accomplished much of what it set out to do.
WHAT HAPPENED TO DAVID:
David was fortunate enough to at least make it to England, but was nevertheless without his teammate. In Dover, David and Richard continued to try and help Usman’s situation. Eventually the boat pilot, Andy King, said it was time to swim. With no guarantee of another clear day, David attempted a solo swim. While conditions turned out not to be as favorable as they were hoping, David did manage to last four hours. For a full account of David’s solo attempt, please check out the blog (including pictures and video!).
Upon hearing of the situation, the board chair of the Channel Swimming Association approached David and kindly offered to step out of a relay going out later that week. This would give David a second chance, and this time as part of a relay. Meeting up with his teammates the morning of, it was clear that everyone was earnestly motivated to make it to France. Thirteen and a half hours later, the relay reached their goal. For a full account of this exciting adventure, please once again check out the blog (including additional photos and video).
WHAT HAPPENED TO USMAN:
Throughout the entire visa ordeal, Usman continued to push for some way to overturn the decision. Despite this tremendous effort, Usman was still unable to make it to Dover. Refusing to waste the situation, Usman set up his own monumental swim. In a local pool, Usman swam non-stop for a grueling eight hours. A full account of this swim, is in the blog (including pictures!)
SO WHAT HAPPENS NOW?
With the swims accomplished, Usman and David look to attempt some final fundraising. Additionally, the pair are intending to deliver several speeches about their experience. Eventually, Channeling Peace hopes to host a concluding event, during which they will present their donation to Doctors Without Borders.
